The Wales National Eisteddfod Bridgend 1998

In 1998 this great festival took place in Pencoed, a few miles from Bridgend and about 16 miles from Cardiff. The Wales Famine Forum arrranged a series of four lectures in Welsh under the general title Plant Padrig a Phlant Dewi (The Children of Patrick and the Children of David).

These lectures took place in the Pabell y Cymdeithasau (Societies’ Pavilion) as follows :
Monday 3 August, 1.30 - 3.00 p.m.: Dr. Harri Pritchard-Jones: Cymru a’r Newyn Mawr /Wales and the Great Famine. Chair: Seán Mac Réamoinn.
Tuesday 4 August, 1.30 - 3.00 p.m.: Dr. Paul O’Leary: Newyn a Phla? Mewnfudwyr Gwyddelig yng Nghymru / Hunger and disease? Irish immigrants in Wales. Chair: Rhodri Morgan MP.
Wednesday 5 August, 1.30 - 3.00 p.m.: Dr. John Davies: Lloyd George ac Iwerddon / Lloyd George and Ireland. Chair: Dr. Proinsias MacCana.
Friday 7 August, 2.00 - 3.30 p.m.: Dr. J.H. Thomas: J.E.Bicheno FRS (1785-1851) – Lloegr, Ogwr, Tasmania a’i Gysylltiad â’r Iwerddon / J.E. Bicheno FRS – England, Ogwr, Tasmania and his connection with Ireland. Chair: Lyn Ebenezer.
